Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Over the past fifteen years, I have devoted myself to the mental health field, progressing from direct clinical practice into leadership, program development, and behavioral health administration. My educational journey began with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Central Michigan University and later advanced through clinical training in Northwestern University’s Master of Arts in Counseling program.
Licensed as a Mental Health Counselor in Hawaii and holding national certification through the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC), my professional experience spans community mental health, correctional settings, child welfare services, higher education, and private practice. Throughout my career, I have provided therapeutic services to individuals, couples, and families while utilizing a variety of interventions including psychoeducation, group counseling, and individual psychotherapy.
In previous roles within the mental health sector, I served as a Clinical Supervisor for a Department of Human Services-funded program, providing oversight and support to a multidisciplinary team of therapists delivering comprehensive behavioral health services. I later served as Program Director for a statewide youth mental health initiative in partnership with the Hawaii Department of Health, where I provided administrative leadership, program development, and clinical oversight to clinicians and support staff across Hawaii.
Today, I serve as the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Kokua Mental Health & Wellness Group, a multidisciplinary behavioral health practice dedicated to expanding access to quality mental health and substance use services throughout Hawaii. I am also honored to serve as President of the Hawaii Counseling Association, where I advocate for the counseling profession and work to strengthen behavioral health services across our communities.
My Approach & Values
At the core of my therapeutic approach is a steadfast belief that the relationship between the therapist and the client is the cornerstone for transformative change. I am deeply convinced that in the sanctuary of a genuine and trusting therapeutic bond, individuals can experience corrective emotional shifts, which play a vital role in healing past traumas and navigating present challenges. My treatment philosophy is rooted in the understanding that everyone carries a unique narrative, colored by their experiences, emotions, and aspirations. As such, my role transcends the traditional paradigms of a counselor. I see myself as both a facilitator, illuminating paths previously unseen or untraveled, and a partner, walking side-by-side with you through the intricacies of your story.
Engaging in therapy is a courageous step towards self-exploration and change. Recognizing this, my approach is always tailored, striving to create a safe and non-judgmental space where open dialogues can blossom. Here, we can collaboratively delve into areas of difficulty, identifying and building on strengths, and paving the way for resilience, empowerment, and profound healing. My commitment, in every session, is to be present, attuned, and genuinely invested in your journey toward wellbeing and fulfillment.

Whether you’ve seen a therapist in the past, are new to the idea, or just looking for a better fit to your needs and personality, it’s the step you’re taking now that will lead you in a new direction to better your life, relationships, and overall mental health.
I started my career as a marriage and family therapist working at a residential eating disorder clinic, where I really found my passion. I worked with the patients as a group, individually, and with their families. That environment really helped shape the therapist I became and taught me the importance of empathy and understanding. It came with such reward when I saw women getting stronger physically and mentally through the aide of counseling services. I have also worked with a non-profit providing counseling sessions in home and in the community for at-risk youth.
My Approach & ValuesI primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Therapy (DBT) to address many different struggles, including anxiety, depression, addiction, and eating disorders.
I truly believe that growth can come from one small change to shift a negative cycle we can all get stuck in. There is always room for us to improve our mental health and quality of life

Pre-licensed Mental Health CounselorOur past experiences and the way we think can shape our emotions and influence how we handle our feelings and interactions with others. This might result in beliefs that hold us back and feelings of anxiety. I'm enthusiastic about supporting individuals on their journey of self-discovery and personal growth, especially as they navigate the challenges that life presents.
During my internship at Kokua MHW Group, I've acquired the essential skills to assist and empower clients during challenging times. I guide them to comprehend the impact of their past on their current situation and collaborate on setting goals to enhance their self-connection and relationships with others.
Honoring the process of growth is uncomfortable, yet expansive in all aspects of life. It is the strength to unlock your potential. I wish to provide consistency in integrating a holistic approach through my practice as an intern counselor, touching base on the mind-body connection. When you're ready, my objective is to take you as far as you want to go.

Licensed Mental Health Counselor
I have a high rate of success in working with couples who seek to strengthen their relationship. I have almost 30 years of professional behavioral healthcare experience and have developed a program which is based on my decades of experiences with couples, inspired by the Gottmans’ research. I have identified 7 characteristics of successful couple relationships and have developed worksheets for couples to evaluate themselves and take action to improve their relationship on each of the 7 characteristics, as well as on the 7 characteristics to avoid which harms and weakens relationships. My experience confirms that the more motivated a couple is and the harder they work to improve the 7 Cs of a strong relationship, the more progress they will make. Also, with the commonsense communications skills which I teach, many couples see significant and substantial improvement within a short period of time. Of course, progress never moves smoothly along a straight line, but it usually consists of 2 steps forward and 1 step back, since changing unhealthy habits takes time and we learn from the habits that need improvement.
I use a similar formula during counseling sessions with individuals, which includes enhancement of problem-solving skills and enhancement of decision-making skills. Simultaneously, as participants learn these skills, a healthy mindset is developed via cognitive restructuring. Individuals learn to challenge negative self-talk using the “Negative Thought Monster,” as we explore what lessons can be learned from their negative experiences. I believe that “a positive can always be found in a negative.” Obsessing on stressors becomes minimized and a positive psychological mindset is developed. As Buddha said, “The problem is NOT the problem, but your reaction is the problem.” So, being able to upload a “Pause” button allows the client to slow down reaction-time and respond appropriately and constructively with increased emotional wellbeing.
I provide professional services for the following types of problems: Anxiety, Depression, Relationship Conflicts, Divorce, High Conflict Divorce, Co Parenting Plan Development, Bereavement, Worksite Problems, Low Self Esteem/Self Worth, Family Estrangement, Men’s Issues, Communication Problems, Value Clarification, Trauma, Substance Abuse Prevention, Dating Problems, Financial Problems, Lifestyle Conflict, Sexual Identity, Anger Management, Family Estate Conflicts, and other problems.
I enjoy providing value for both couples and individuals, and I look forward to working with you.

Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Taking the first step to begin therapy can feel overwhelming, and I want to acknowledge you for being here and considering support for your growth and well-being. I was born and raised in Hawai‘i, which has shaped my understanding of how deeply culture, community, and connection
influence who we are and how we heal.
I have always had a passion for helping others and supporting people in their growth. I began my counseling journey working with a variety of individuals, and later with adults experiencing serious and persistent mental illness. Many of the clients I worked with faced crises, substance use, trauma, and dual diagnoses, and I found deep meaning in walking alongside them in their healing process. I have experience supporting adults with depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, and adjustment difficulties. I earned my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Chaminade University and am now a licensed mental health counselor.
My Approach & Values
I believe every person deserves a safe and supportive space to explore their challenges and emotions. I work with adults to help them feel heard, understood, and empowered. I adapt my approach to meet each person where they are, honoring their journey and life experiences while
providing the tools and support needed to move forward. I am especially passionate about helping people express and manage their emotions, build resilience, and create meaningful change in their lives.
