Kokua MHW Group

Emalani Kam, MS

I am a current graduate student attending Northwestern University. I am passionate in expanding my knowledge of mental health counseling, as well as learning to support people with their mental and emotional health. My academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in both Biology and Dance from Mills College, now known as Mills College at Northeastern University. Additionally, I have my Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Research from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

I am currently pursusing my Master’s in Counseling at Northwestern University, where I am receiving training both clinically and theoretically. As part of my clinical training, I am completing my practicum at Kokua MHW Group, where I will provide individual therapy to clients facing anxiety, depression, and/or life transitions under supervision. I am also currently interested in working with adoptees, as I am an adoptee myself. I believe mental health counseling offers healing, connection, empowerment, and overall personal growth. I am still determining my counselor identity. However, I hope to help clients via a person-centered, acceptance and commitment therapy, and multicultural lens.

My overall mission is to give back to my community, my home, as best as I can through counseling. I am committed in strengthening my clinical skills, expanding my knowledge of humanity, and connecting with others as they begin their own mental health journey. I look forward to helping clients as best I can, all while learning my own unique style.
